Project Access of Durham County is an organized system of health care provided at no charge to low income uninsured Durham County residents on a voluntary basis by physicians and other health care practitioners, hospitals, laboratories, pharmacies, and other health service providers. This system, implemented in many communities around the US, is based on the original Project Access model developed in Buncombe County, NC in 1995.

Though this model of health care delivery is only a partial solution to the inefficiencies and inequities of our current health care system, we are helping to improve health and reducing costs by coordinating timely and appropriate care and follow-up.
